Default XC Nationals 2017 and Support Races

The Hurt Locker, Humpty Dumpty, Python, Outlaw and the fearsome Double Trouble await 137 riders, including 27 women and girls, representing 45 Clubs / Teams at the National Cross Country (XC) Mountain Bike Championships which will take place in Djouce Woods, County Wicklow on Sunday, July 23rd . Taking the best of the trails available, this year’s hosts, Epic Mountain Bike Club, have designed a course with gruelling climbs, technical traverses and steep descents. With championship racing in 12 categories from Under 12 to the over 50s and non-championship races for Under 6, 8 and 10 boys and girls and Sports races for both men and women, this will be a day for the whole family: You can register for these races here and pay on the day https://goo.gl/forms/1kGNjxs8lXLsf4bd2. Whilst the competition will be fierce in every category as racers battle it out for national honours, the M30 class with see reigning M30 XC champion Alfie Wallace defend his jersey against a strong field, David Conroy will take on the Seniors for the first time following his move from the Juniors and the M40 category will hold particular interest as Robin Seymour, current World XC Mountain Bike Champion in his age class, takes on, or should that be, takes apart, a field of 32 riders.

The course is spectator friendly with multiple vantage points – Watch as racers go deep into the Hurt Locker, thunder out of Python, apply pressure on the Outlaw and get out of Double Trouble as quick as they can. All these locations are within a kilometre of the Finish Line with plenty of cover to protect from the sun, wind or whatever. Given the time of the year - bring insect repellent. Parking, coffee, refreshments and music will be available in the start-finish field.

The non-championship races for the under age kids start as follows... Under 6: 09:50; Under 8: 10:00; Under 10: 10:10

Remember, these races which will take place in the start-finish field, are just for the fun and participation. They are NOT championship races :-)

See you all on the trails.

Hi, heard the Bray air display is on this weekend. Could cause some delays in people getting to the race on Sunday. You might want to warn them to allow for extra time. There were some serious delays on the m50/n11 last year. It was at a standstill at junction 15 Kilternan on the Sunday about 1pm. Glenamuck rd was gridlocked too. http://www.brayairdisplay.com/getting-here/

Unfortunately my wife thought it was a great idea to go on holiday from Saturday (it was the only week she could get)
So not here for the Nationals but I hope it all runs smoothly for the club!

    Hi Muiris,

Thanks for pointing this out. I'll email all the registered riders and we'll post up on FB.

    Cheers,

    David
