      Good news my lords?

      08.03.11

TV3 News has learned that Economist Colm McCarthy's long awaited report into the sale of state assets could be ready by as early as next week. Today Fine Gael promised that the Forestry Agency Coillte will not be sold off.

This comes days after the UK also shelved plans to sell its forests.

Instead the State Board is expected to be merged with Bord na Mona to provide a company specialising in Biomass - fast growing trees utilised in the production of electricity.

It is a carbon neutral process and it is expected to utilised bogs harvested for turf as a site for biomass growth

Those fast growing trees sound dangerous, time for some more goo in the tyres.

If the swiss get hold of things we're doomed, they fine you if your car is dirty and you can't use your lawnmower on weekends. A pal of mine rode a dirty lawnmower through Geneva to protest one sunday and got 15 years in the clink, with no chocolate or timepiece privileges.

Here is a statement from the new program for government....

Bio-Energy and Forestry: To accelerate the development of Ireland’s forestry and bioenergies,
NewERA will merge together Bord na Mona and Coillte to create a new State
company called BioEnergy Ireland to become a global leader in the commercialisation of next
generation bio-energy technologies, including an annual 14,700 hectare afforestation
                  programme

Doesnt look like they will be selling Coillte by the sound of this.. But hard to tell in the long run.
