View Full Version : Irish XC NPS Round 5 (MBUL) preview

27-05-10, 11:10 AM
Round five of the Irish Mountain Bike XC NPS takes place on Sunday June 6th in Ballycuggaran Woods outside Killaloe, Co. Clare, hosted by MBUL – the University of Limerick Mountain Bike Club. Last used for an NPS in 2007, the 5 km track has been greatly developed to make it weatherproof – now incorporating rock gardens, mesh, board walk and substantial sections of benchcut singletrack.

The infamous Blue Bin of Despair climb makes a return, though the actual blue bin seems to have gone missing! Rewards for ascending the climb include roughly 2K of continuous singletrack and the spectacular view over Lough Derg.
For those interested in making it a weekend, the Ballyhoura mountain bike park is approximately 1 hours drive away.

singletrack at last and a savage climb

Yep, that about sums it up. Harking back to the good old days, when almost all races featured a lot of forest and roots :D

27-05-10, 11:35 AM
Yep, Hoping to do this one. Going to bring the family and the tent and make a weekend out of it. Suprisingly there isn't to many family campsites in the area. The nearest one i can find (with kids stuff) is over in tipperary in the gap of Arherlow. Nice spot. Anybody know of campsites in the area of Kilaloe/ ballina.

Of course it'll be epic - don't tell me you're afraid of a bit of a hill?

27-05-10, 12:45 PM
no i like hills..i hate tarmac and too much grass !! there better be dry sweet singletrack, dancing ladies ( good looking ones !!) and Wi Fi !! this is a chance to make Olaf eat his words !!

27-05-10, 12:55 PM
No tarmac or grass - will have to see bout the dancing ladies, and wi-fi - well, there's a slim chance there's some at the activity centre afterwards.

that rider is pretty handy - who is it?

28-05-10, 11:04 AM
That was Dr. Eason. A ton of work has gone into weatherproofing, but it's all bone dry and very fast at the moment.

28-05-10, 11:10 AM
a doctor eh?
Byrner might need his services, especially if he tries chasing me over those rocks at warp speed....

28-05-10, 11:18 AM
Finally, a mtb course, wish I had a nice light full sus for this!!
